National Grandparents Day was established in 1978 to help the elderly in nursing homes and to help children tap in to the wisdom and heritage of our nation’s grandparents. As more aged Americans struggle to meet increasing costs of living, we are learning that our elders, too, need gently used warm coats. Grandma’s 30-year old coat is wearing out; Grandpa’s jacket no longer fits. But “there’s too much month left at the end of the money” to replace them. Our dream is that people – of all ages – can get a warm coat, free. This Sunday, we hope you’ll take a moment to honor the ways this generation contributed to your life. Making a warmer winter possible for an elder American in your community would be quite an honor!
